Wednesday, 12 November 2014: Woolworths Limited is creating 1,000 new retail and construction jobs across Tasmania, through a two year, $70 million investment with the building of three new stores and refurbishment of five stores by the end of 2015.
Woolworths Tasmanian State Manager, Daniel Ellul, will be joined by Tasmanian Premier Will Hodgman MP, Treasurer Peter Gutwein MP and Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten to announce details of development plans at a sod turning ceremony to mark the construction of a new Woolworths Supermarket in Launceston on Wednesday, 12 November.
Woolworths Limited CEO, Grant O’Brien, said he was proud that Woolworths was able to create more than 1,000 construction and retail jobs during the development stage and subsequent operation of the eight stores.
“I started my career with Woolworths more than 25 years ago, at Purity supermarkets. Woolworths has a long tradition of providing young Australians with their first job and I am glad we can continue to do so, particularly in my home state of Tasmania,” Mr O’Brien said.
Woolworths Limited employs more than 5,000 Tasmanians across more than 85 stores and support network.
Daniel Ellul said, “Woolworths is looking forward to completing the refurbishments and new stores. This will provide Tasmanian shoppers with Australia’s most modern supermarkets.
“The new stores will provide local customers with fresh Australian produce, inspiring meal ideas, a wide choice of healthy options and a huge range of grocery items at low prices.
“The stores will also stock a great range of Tasmanian products including Lenah Game Meats, cream from Meander Valley Dairy and yoghurt from Westhaven, ” he said.
