Tuesday, 29 December 2020: Australians can say a sweet goodbye to 2020 thanks to the new hot cross bun range arriving at Woolworths tomorrow, 30 December 2020.
Along with the classic favourite traditional hot cross buns, the Woolworths Bakery team have been working hard for months to bring customers an extended range of decadent new flavours and varieties.
New indulgent flavours, available in four-packs for just $3.50 each, include Mocha with Cadbury Old Gold Dark Chocolate Chips, and Apple and Cinnamon made with 100% Australian sourced Pink Lady apples, both made in Australia.
Woolworths Director of Buying, Paul Harker, said: “After a tough year, the introduction of our new hot cross bun range is perfectly timed to help customers ring in the New Year, and starts the countdown to 2021 Easter celebrations.
“We’ve created a range that meets the varied tastes of our customers. Combining the best ingredients, including locally sourced Pink Lady apples and the nostalgic flavour of much-loved Cadbury’s Old Gold, our hot cross buns are also bringing something new to the table.”
Mark & Jackie Paganoni, who are third generation farmers and supply the Pink Lady Apples from Moorooduc, Victoria for the new apple & cinnamon hot cross buns, said: “We've been farming Pink Lady Apples for 35 years and harvest more than 7 million apples each year, 2 million of which are Pink Lady Apples.
“The climate of the Mornington Peninsula in the Southern Victoria region makes our Pink Lady Apples extra delicious and sweet, creating the perfect combination for the Apple and Cinnamon Hot Cross Buns.
"As a grower of Pink Lady Apples, we're excited to show the versatility of our much-loved fruit and help put a new spin on a classic treat like a hot cross bun.”
Woolworths predicts there will be more than 77 million hot cross buns hopping off shelves in the lead up to Easter, including 17 million in the first month alone.
The traditional hot cross bun range also includes traditional fruit (in both mini 9pk and six pack) alongside Cadbury Choc Chip and a Fruitless variety. There’s even a hot cross bun loaf freshly baked in-store daily.
Brioche hot cross buns also feature in six packs for $4.50, in Cadbury chocolate or traditional fruit, join existing popular hot cross buns.
The range also meets certain dietary requirements in the form of Free From gluten-free four packs, available in fruitless, fruity and chocolate varieties for $4.50.
Paul Harker concluded “It’s important to take stock of 2020, but look forward to a new year with the release of our hot cross bun range. Perfect for Aussies looking to entertain, snack, indulge or help completely forget 2020. There is a hot cross bun variety this year at Woolworths for each Australian.”
