2 November 2022 – Festive fanatics around the country are set to rejoice as BIG W has officially supersized Christmas. The retailer is bringing the magic to Christmas by transforming some of Australia’s most iconic BIG Things – the Big Hills Hoist, the Big Pineapple and the Big Golden Guitar – into show stopping Christmas spectacles to herald the beginning of the festive season.

BIG W has been mysteriously taking over communities across the country as part of its biggest Christmas campaign yet, kicking off in Adelaide with the Big Hills Hoist on the site of Orrcon Steel in O’Sullivan Beach. The larger-than-life clothesline, a backdrop to the Aussie Christmas backyard barbeque, has been playfully hung with Santa’s washing in preparation for his big tour and adorned with sparkling Christmas lights.

The world-famous Big Pineapple in Woombye, Queensland, standing 16m tall has been reimagined as a giant Christmas tree. The renowned landmark towers with tinsel, baubles and colourful lights with a huge blue star sitting on top for the final festive touch.

BIG W’s Big Things takeover has culminated in the transformation of the Big Golden Guitar in Tamworth, the home of country music and the first official BIG W store. The half tonne Australian icon has been electrified with a show stopping light projection, playing Christmas carols to the delight of passers-by.

The mammoth makeover has been timed with the reveal of BIG W’s Christmas Campaign ‘Make a Little Magic’. The campaign’s TV ad, launching today, follows a little boy named Noel who with magical ‘Santa Hands’ has the ability to turn everyday objects into Christmas scenes with one touch.

Claire West, Head of Marketing - Brand & Strategy at BIG W says: “This Christmas BIG W is not only celebrating the transformative power of Christmas but also embracing the fun of the season by helping to spread a little joy in a BIG way. We know that Aussies and visitors alike have a fascination with Australia’s iconic Big Things, so what better way of introducing the story of Santa Hands to the country than by turning our most iconic supersized landmarks into magical Christmas spectacles.

“Our BIG magical makeovers celebrate the start of the season and BIG W is here to help Christmas lovers around the country bring a little magic into their celebrations. We have everything you need from bon bons to big brands, fam jams to festive tableware, and all exceptional value starting at just $1.”
