5 December 2024: Woolworths New Zealand has reached a significant milestone in its ongoing transformation journey with its 100th store undergoing the transition to Woolworths - Woolworths Dunedin South.

The Dunedin supermarket first opened in 2012 and over the last 6 months has undergone a significant refresh with the store featuring a range of new and improved features. These include a new Woolworths Pharmacy with free prescriptions and vaccinations, Online Delivery area improvements, new checkouts, and a dedicated health foods area with a more curated food offering.

Woolworths Dunedin South Store Manager, Ben Rudsdale, is excited to welcome customers into the refreshed space, and says it’s a special milestone to be the 100th Woolworths in New Zealand.

"We have worked hard to create a store that is modern, welcoming, and easy to shop in. We believe that our customers will love the new look and feel of the store, as well as the enhanced range of products and services. We have lots planned for opening weekend including customised goodie bags, free coffee and a BBQ running, so I’d encourage locals to come on down"

Woolworths New Zealand Managing Director, Spencer Sonn, cut the ribbon on the refreshed store this morning alongside long-serving Dunedin South team member Maree Macpherson and store manager Ben Rudsdale. Spencer remarked on the significance of the moment for the local team and community.

"The 100th store milestone is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team across the country, who have been instrumental in bringing Woolworths New Zealand to life. When we announced our transformation to Woolworths last year, we committed to becoming a better place to shop, better to work for and to deliver better experiences for our communities - Dunedin South is a perfect example of how we’re delivering that promise,” adds Spencer.

To celebrate its reopening, Woolworths Dunedin South has also made a donation to its local food rescue partner, Kiwi Harvest, to help continue their work to divert food that can’t be sold but is still good enough to eat to Kiwis in need.

Woolworths' transformation journey , which began in 2023, reflects the retailer’s commitment to delivering a fresh and modern shopping experience for New Zealanders. Newly upgraded stores feature a refreshed look and feel, with a focus on fresh food, convenience, and customer service.
