Christmas and Easter bring a tide of festivity to our supermarkets, but did you know about the other celebrations we share with local communities throughout the year?

There’s turkeys that fill our fridges at Christmas and hot cross buns in the bakery at Easter. Each of them plays a special part in the celebration of these cultural moments. But there are a number of other moments marked in the calendar of our stores each year, celebrating a range of cultural events for local communities across Australia.

One of them is Rosh Hashanah. Over the next few weeks, a number of our stores will be preparing for the Jewish New Year event with special products added to our Kosher range.

Yosi Barukh is our Kosher specialist at Woolworths. He says, “We wish all of our customers a Happy Rosh Hashanah. It’s a special moment for the Jewish community and we’re excited to be able to offer a number of specials on Kosher products for the occasion.

“In the last couple of years, we’ve been working hard to expand our range of Kosher products to cater for the local community and have almost doubled the number of products on offer. For Rosh Hashanah we’ll have Matzah ball mix, chicken frames, baklava, round raisin challah, Jesse’s Honey Cake and pomegranates.”

Several of our supermarkets in Sydney are also partnering with Our Big Kitchen to provide food relief ahead of the event in September. As a community run industrial kitchen, Rabbi Doctor Dovid Slavin and his wife Laya coordinate a team of volunteers to cook for families in need.

“Food security is not an issue that one person can solve, it's a team effort, and that’s what makes this partnership special,” said Rabbi Slavin. “Rosh Hashanah is also a time for families, and we want to make sure everyone can enjoy this time.”

Con is our the store manager at Woolworths Cabramatta celebrating Lunar New Year in store

Earlier this year we also brought the Year of the Rabbit (Chinese) and the Year of the Cat (Vietnamese) into our stores for Lunar New Year, with a range of special products and in-store events. Con led the celebrations at our Cabramatta store which saw hundreds of local community members gathered for traditional dances.

Keep an eye out for many more events to come this year before we get to Christmas, including the Moon Festival, Diwali and Chanukah. And we encourage customers to share their feedback on any cultural products they want to see instore!
